New opponents Freshfields won the toss and decided to bat in a 40 over game. Some judicious . In a spin heavy attck the HAC opened up with Parry, snaring a wicket in his first over, and Dewan. The opposition were going fairly strongly though with 57 off 10 before a flurry of wickets reduced them to 87 for 4. Then numbers Saul (42) and club member Taylor (54) dug and despatched the bad ball propelling them to 170. The late introduction of Runkel (4-0-8-3) and a couple of run outs precipitated a quick downfall and six wickets for 18 runs saw them post 188.
The HAC innings also had it's own issues establishing momentum. Another wicket in the first over and some wily SLA bowling saw us teetering at 49-4 with some of our notable big guns back in the hutch. Debutant King, whose pedigree was balanced with a lack of match practice and Haines (48) set about steadying the ship. Some judicious blocking and the occasional assault saw them lift the score to 144 after 32 just short of a century partnership, when Haines chopped on. Morgan and Faj helped Graeme get the team home with 2 overs to spare, with King finishing with a well constructed 77 not out.
Job done and a nice addition to the fixture card against local opposition who we must thank for the provision of great BBQ and tea. Special mention to Will Gibson and Ryan Taylor for getting this one off the ground.
