HAC vs London NZ
By Liam Casey
HAC battle against a strong London NZ side
Debuts : A Dhanatunge, A Biddall, H Longton
A beautiful sunny day, perfect cricketing conditions.
HAC won the toss and decided to bat first.
The two openers got off to a decent start, Casey and Santosh batting well. The HAC making their way to 50 without loss.
The openers both fell quickly; allowing Parry to come to the crease and he scored freely, playing a very entertaining innings on a pitch that was bower friendly. Gillard was unlucky to be given out LBW. Fulton and Dhanatunge helped along the scoring, however, the HAC innings was stuttering and the strength of the LNZ bowling was showing. A fine late partnership between Morgan and Biddall bolstered the innings, they both scored freely and with gusto around the Artillery Gardens, it as good to watch.. The HAC reached 204 in their 45 overs
Greeting us at the end of the innings, was a magnificent BBQ burger which we all wolfed down and enjoyed, thanks again to Chris!
The LNZ innings set off at pace with shots all around the ground. The HAC openers bowling well, but, with the sun out and the pitch flattening, it seemed like the LNZ had the upper hand, especially with the added difficulty of only ten fielding players on the pitch... Parry bowled a good spell, with little luck. On the advice of - WK - Morgan, Santosh was unveiled at the house end, to great effect, picking up three very good wickets and bowling a tidy spell.
Ultimately though the HAC total wasn't enough and LNZ won at a canter.
A few cold beers awaited us and together with the LNZ team we enjoyed watching the sun go down over the Artillery ground.
LNZ are one of our most competitive fixtures and I encourage our best players to make themselves available for this game next season.
Also fielding ten players in a fixture like this is not expectable. If you are unable to play please give proper notice and make every effort to find a replacement.
