The below Article appeared in the Spring 2016 HAC Journal, written by the Club President, Chris Huxtable
A comprehensive report of our cricketing achievements during the 2015 season was provided in the Autumn Journal. Since then the Cricket Club has held its AGM and end of season dinner and commenced pre-season training in readiness for the new season.
The AGM and dinner were well attended by past and present members and a number of guests including the Chairman of the Sports Committee and several of the Help for Heroes Cricket team which played against us on Presidents Day and a few weeks later went on to lose heroically to the England Disability X1 (who had just beaten Pakistan to become world champions) in a match played at the Oval.
Group Captain Barrie Griffiths from Help for Heroes proposed the health of the Club and his colleague Mark Neale spoke eloquently about how being given the opportunity to continue playing sport and to participate in matches such as the game against the HAC played a significant part in his and many other wounded soldiers rehabilitation.
End of season awards were presented to Sean Parry (batting), Tim Lawson (bowling), and Cameron Edwards (Ishan Ashes) for their excellent efforts on the pitch. Alex Houghton, our retiring Secretary, was awarded the President’s prize and installed as a Vice-President in recognition of his many and varied contributions both on and off the pitch over the last decade - including a successful term as Club Captain and Dan Brooker, our retiring 1st X1 Captain was awarded an honours tie. A well supported after-dinner auction, managed by Vice-President Will Lowndes, raised funds for both Help for Heroes Cricket and The Soldiers Charity.
Liam Casey takes over as our new 1st X1 Captain with Ed Jones and Sean Parry supporting him. Ed Haines continues as AX1 Captain with support from Matthew Edwards, Euan Stuart and Neil Runkel and Charlie Martin continues as the Squadrons’ X1 Captain. Winter nets at Lords are in full swing and a pre-season drinks party is planned for early April. Anyone who may be interested in playing for the Club next season or who wants to get involved should contact our new Secretary, Ed Haines, on 07769 975948 or firstname.lastname@example.org to receive further information.
